Hundreds of producers, reporters, and writers use their Mac PC's with EZNews every day.
Though EZNews is a Windows-based application, it yields acceptable performance when running on Macs.
Several different methods are available for running EZNews on Macs:
- The easiest method is to use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Services. Dozens of EZNews installations use this method with acceptable results.
- The preferred method is run EZNews (Windows) in a virtual machine within OS X. The most common tools to do this are Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, and VirtualBox.
- Another method is to set your Macs up to dual-boot between OS X and Windows using Apple's Boot Camp. This approach provides the most compatibility with Windows software and peripherals, but it does not allow you to run Windows and Mac OS X applications at the same time.
- Yet another option makes use of a Windows compatibility layer, which allows you to run Windows programs without having to install Windows itself. There are several compatibility layers available, both as freeware (e.g. WINE) and commercial packages (e.g. CrossOver Mac). Though these offer ac acceptable level of functionality, we do not recommend them. Periodic EZNews software updates require some level of reconfiguration of the 'bottle' that is installed on each client machine. Using the other methods above does not require the system administrator to 'touch' each machine when the software is updated.
